Q:    Stand-Up Pouches -Filling: When do you recommend to use ready made pouches and versus a form fill and seal machine?
A:    In cases where the yearly demand is less than 3-4 million pouches, filling by hand or by a simple automatic filling machine using pre-made pouches is more economically. Where hot filling, retort or high performance packaging is required. Then pre-made pouches supplied by a reliable manufacturer ensure the quality of the product.

Q:    How do you fill stand up pouches with zipper?
A:    One option is to open and fill by hand. The second option is to purchase pouches with an open zipper. CLP has the capabilities to bend a pouch with an open zipper.

Q:    Which parameters of the packaging material affect the speed of the filling machine (vertical and horizontal)?
A:    The most important parameters are the sealing characteristics of the sealing layer; the COF (Coefficient of Friction) and the BLOCKING. The COF can be simply measured and adjusted to the required machine specification. The blocking effect is much more complicated and depends on the inherent knowledge of the sealing layer manufacturing as well as on the converting performances.

Q:    What is the recommended distance between the Laser Scoring line and the zipper?
A:    The concept of applying a laser scoring line for easy and straight opening wherever a zipper is applied, was developed for the customer's convenience. A distance of about 20 mm allows for sufficient shoulders for the fingers to hold the pouch and re-close it easily.

Q:    Must all pouches be square?
A:    Only in a square world… Eye catching shaped pouches can be as functional as they are attractive. Our pouches can be shaped to almost any form in order to match a graphic design, a functional grip or pour capability. We encourage our customer to propose the shapes best suitable for their needs.

Q:    What type of lidding can be used with pre-made trays?
A:    There are three major types of lidding available at CLP. They defer in their opening and closing features.
A. Locked – a lid that can only be open by cutting with a sharp object such as scissors or a knife.
B. Easy Open – lidding that can be open by pulling one of the edges without cutting.
C. Recloseable – a lid that can be open and sealed back manually for continued storage.
All the above types are available in multitude options including clear and opaque, microwavable or ovenable and even in fog free versions.

Q:    Where can spouts be fitted on a pouch?
A:    Spouts can be fitted almost anywhere in a pouch. On the top, in any of the top corners in a 45? angle or even in the bottom of the pouch to create a pouch standing on its head.

Q:    Why is laser scoring better than mechanical perforation?
A:    Laser scoring is far preferable to mechanical scoring (perforation) because using laser we can perforate exactly only one of the materials in the laminate rather than having to punch the whole package. The result is that users can easily tear the pouch open without compromising the barrier properties and physical strength of the pouch.

Q:    What is the recommended distance between the laser scoring line and the zipper?
A:    A distance of about 20 mm between the laser score and the zipper allows for sufficient shoulders for the consumer’s fingers to hold the pouch and re-close it easily.
